As much as we love to indulge in an extravagant sushi diner at Steel, or relish a nuvo-Mexican lunch at Mi Cocina, there are those days when only good ol' fashion comfort will do. And while there's no shortage of restaurants here that serve up these down-home favorites, most places lack...how shall we put it? Atmosphere.
That's where chef-owner Douglas Brown (think, Amuse on Lamar) comes in. Brown has recently taken his culinary show on the road and landed deep in the Southern Sector with the opening of Cliff Café. Part of the retro-chic Belmont Hotel, Cliff Café maintains the same historic feel with a sort of 1940's couture-diner vibe that's acts as the perfect backdrop to menu that is as close to home cooked as it gets. |

When you go, get ready to indulge in an slew of appetizers, entrees and desserts that, while they may send your personal trainer into convulsions, are all beyond delicious. Make sure to try the mac-and-cheese with fresh basil and tomatoes, the mango glazed pork shanks and the pecan pie. Our favorite; the chicken fried steak served with roasted veggies and homemade gravy. As for the libations, try the Cliff Cocktail, a chocolate malt martini with Stoli Vanilla, Godiva Chocolate Liqueur and coffee liqueur. It's as much a dessert as it is a drink.
A cool vibe, carbs and creative cocktails --now that's what we call comfort. |
