Aside from those
extended lunch breaks, hours of rapid-fire instant messaging and a
little Q.T. with Perez Hilton, you know all too well what a hard
day's work is all about. And when the workday's over, there's
nothing better than heading to a posh little eatery to sip
sophisticated cocktails and pick at some exotic appetizer with a
stylish crowd.
Problem is,
if you're like the rest of us, your exhausted, post-workday routine
has dwindled down to throwing back PBRs with a load of balding suits
in a dingy pub, or worse yet, sitting alone at home with the Bravo
line-up and a box of wine.
Take refuge
from such scenarios at L'Asie, one of the latest dining incarnations
on
6th Avenue
's restaurant row. Occupying the space formerly known to Emma's,
L'Asie is a posh and private little eatery that, believe it or not,
succeeds at making Asian fusion seem new and interesting. Unlike the
barrage of other fusion restaurants that have come and gone in the
last decade, L'Asie separates itself by offering a menu that infuses
a host of traditional dishes from all over the Far East, including
fare from Southern China,
Vietnam
,
Japan
and
Thailand
. In fact, the only "fusiony" dish you'll find on the menu
is an appetizer that features Vietnamese spring rolls with Japanese
edamame, gyozas and tofu.
Entree-wise,
L'Asie has a good selection of seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes
including their signature rice paper wraps. Made tableside, you can
choose from a long list of fillings and create your own entree wrap.
Also try one
of their Flowering Teas, these handmade green teas have all been
woven into blossom-shaped buds that bloom in water and mimic the
shape of a lily, carnation or even a grouping of chrysanthemum
flowers. It's like the Discovery Channel in a mug.
Of course, if
a cup of tea isn't what you had in mind for a post-work beverage,
L'Asie has a whole selection of higher octane libations to take the
edge off while you enjoy the good food and great company.
