Pi : After Hours Pizza

Your post-work martini turned into five, plus two beers and a shot of tequila. It's 1:45 a.m., the bouncer's booted you to the curb and now you're stranded, sloshed and ready for food. Problem is, late-night eating downtown usually means a curbside burrito, stale bag of chips from 7-11, or worse yet, a trip to Taco Bell.

That's why we are so happy to learn about Pi, downtown's first after-hours pizza spot that serves up good ol' fashion Italian pies until 5 a.m. Opening tonight by the same group that brought us Slim 7, Pi is another stylish, subterranean speakeasy-like spot that's chic, laid-back and all about the pizza. Better yet, there's no cover so whether you want to stop in for a pre-after-hours party slice or settle in and gorge 'til dawn, making this pit stop a no-brainer.

Down below, Pi's large space is sparsely outfitted with mod sofas, local art and four long bar tables lined with candyapple red Art Deco stools, presumably for the inevitable 2 a.m. rush. They've even dropped in a few old-school arcade games like Ms. Pacman and Galaga to let patrons test their inebriated reaction speeds and play off a good post-club buzz.

As for the pizza, you'll find the usual suspects of any New York style pizzeria, including pepperoni, sausage, veggie, cheese and even a few non-traditional pies including a Margarita and a Pesto Chicken. Slices start at four bucks and a large pie goes for $19.00. And, in the off-chance that you make it to Pi before last-call, you can park yourself at the bar and get good deals on wine, beer or even a cocktail for $6.50.

From now on, getting a good late night meal is...well, as easy as Pi.
